WHAT IS PEMF?

PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) therapy is a safe and non-invasive treatment which involves using  a range of pulsating electromagnetic frequencies to help stimulate different cells in the body. This triggers the cells to perform more efficiently, resulting in higher enegery and quicker tissue healing.

HOW DOES PEMF WORK?

You can think of PEMF of being the bodies battery recharger.

It works by improving adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production which is the energy carrying molecule in your body. More so, PEMF facilitates vasodilation, angiogenesis, reduces inflammation and has been found to be effective in enhancing nerve regeneration.

WHAT CONDITIONS WOULD BENEFIT FROM PEMF?

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Fractures

  • Post-surgical pain and oedema

  • Wounds

  • Inflammation

  • Nerve damage

  • Spinal Injuries

  • Repairing soft tissue injuries

WHAT IS NMES?

WHAT IS TENS?

NMES stands for Neuromuscular Electrical Stimualtion. It is a non-painful and non-invasive therapeutic technique performed buplacing electode pads on thecoat or skin with gel to deliver a low level electrical current.

NMES is used to stimulate motor nerve fibres which  creates a series of muscle contractions. These contractions can aid in the inhibition of muscle wastage or it can help strengthen / re-educate the muscle depending on the settings used.

It canalso be used as a component of pain control.

TENs stands for Transcutaneous neuromuscular stimulaton. This also involves the use of electrical currents stimulating nerves and muscles for pain relief.

TENs stimulates sensory nerve fibres which block the signal of pain, resulting in the required muscle relaxation and pain relief.   Additionally,  TENs stimulates the release of endorphins, the bodies natural pain releif. Unlike NMES, TENs does not generate any muscle contractions as it is used in a very low frequency to target different nerves.

TENs can be used as pain relief before, during or after exercise.
